51³Ô¹ÏÍø Leaders in Secondary Schools: The first year

The role of the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Leader is the cornerstone of ensuring that every young person has the career guidance they need. The government’s 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Strategy recognised the importance of this role and signalled a major shift in the prominence of career guidance in schools and colleges.
A survey of 750 51³Ô¹ÏÍø leaders in secondary schools in England took place in March and April 2019. The schools of the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Leaders who participated are broadly representative of all state-funded secondary schools in England, including special schools. Illustrative case studies were carried out in June to provide real-life examples of how schools are embedding the role.
